Friday Notes!

NEWS FROM SCHOOL:

Welcome Back!!  We are off to an amazing start to our new school year!

Here are some reminders:

  • When pulling into the parking lot for afternoon pickup, fill in to the rows at the left.  It is unfair to the parents who have been patiently waiting for cars to zip into the moving line so they do not have to wait!  We will make it out in a timely manner if this is followed.  I will be out in the parking lot monitoring this for a few days.   Please make a sign, visible from a distance, with your last name on it and place it either on the rear view mirror or on the dash.  This will help everyone get in and out of the line quicker!!
  • Cars are not permitted to drop off or pick up in the front parking lot.  Today, students riding the bus were late because they had to wait for a line of cars that were supposed to be in the back lot.
  • Lunch money should be sent for the entire week on Monday.  Please send it in a clearly marked envelope with “lunch” and your child’s name on it.  We have money sent in yesterday, unmarked, and have no clue where it is supposed to go!
  • Remember to get your child to school on time (in their room by 7:40).  Four unexcused tardys will equate one unexcused absence.

When does the PTA meet?Attending a PTA meeting is a GREAT way to get more involved in your child’s school, connect with other parents and really make a difference for the students.  They say it takes a village to raise a child and here at St. Vivian, we really take this to heart!  Many of the fun and exciting events throughout the year are not possible if we do not have the hands to support them.  St. Vivian is such wonderful school because of the AMAZING parents that volunteer throughout the year!  There is a reason you chose our school for your child, we are counting on you to help us continue to be successful and the best option for your family.  We really hope to see many new faces at both the meetings and helping with events this year.
The PTA handout included in the packet listed the incorrect day for our meetings; they are not the 3rd Wednesday of each month.  This year, we will alternate months with the 3rd Thursday (except August) and 3rd Sunday.  Following is a schedule for our next 5 meetings, all held in St. Ursuline Hall.  Childcare will be provided, so bring the whole family!

  • Thursday August 22 @ 7pm, St. Ursuline Hall
  • Sunday September 15 @ 6pm, St. Ursuline Hall
  • Thursday October 17 @ 7pm, St. Ursuline Hall
  • Sunday November 17 @ 6pm, St. Ursuline Hall
  • No meeting in December
  • Thursday January 16 @ 7pm, St. Ursuline Hall

Virtus Training:The Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires all adult who come in contact with our children be Virtus Trained.  This training is so important because it really helps adults recognize signs of child abuse and take action to help porotect our innocent children.  The packet included 2 sessions that will be held at St. Vivian, however, there are many, many opportunities every week, throughout the city.  Coming to St. Vivian is not your only choice and doesn’t mean it’s only for our school’s parents and church parishioners.  There will be people from all over who choose our location.  Did you know that you have already paid your training fee when you enrolled your child?  So why not put your money to good use and attend a class?  Click HERE to see a list of upcoming classes and to register.  If the link doesn’t work, you can copy and paste the following link into your browser: https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_list.cfm?theme=0
Volunteer opportunitiesHave you ever planned a birthday party, family gathering or friend get-together?  Then YOU can absolutely help with a school event.  We have several people within out school that can help you every step of the way.  The events range from super easy (Muffins with Mom or Donuts with Dad) to a little more involved (Grandparents/ Special Persons Day), but I promise nothing is complicated.
Maybe being the Party Planner isn’t your thing, and that’s okay.  We always need behind the scenes helpers, too!  Each event has positions that don’t require you to be there the whole time.  If you want to participate in this wonderful community of ours, we have a perfect fit for you.  Just let us know what your interested in and we will help match you up to the perfect position for your busy life.
We currently have immediate openings for you to earn 1 volunteer hour per session:
Morning Drop-off: This is so important to help keep our kids safe in the morning.  Someone will show you what to do!  All you need to do is set out orange cones, ensure cars are yielding to children and parents are courteous to others, and then put the cones away.  If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Brack by email at JBrack@mystvivian.org or by phone.
Recess Duty: What a wonderful way to see your child during the school day and show some love to our teachers!  If you are not aware, teams of teachers rotate during lunch duty and recess duty.  A recess volunteer, like yourself, can offer a teacher a little bit longer of a break to enjoy their lunch time.  Believe me, an extra 15mins of lunch can really make a BIG difference.  Click HERE to view the Recess Sign Up Genius or email Allison Meyer at Allisonmm4@gmail.com to let her know your questions and how you can help.  You can either chose a reoccuring day of the month, or fill in where needed.
Uniform ExchangeSt. Vivian is so blessed to have such generous families who donate uniforms to this program!  If you were unable to find what you needed during the packet pick-up, please email stvpta@gmail.com.  Tracey Bohem and Kelly Braun manage this program and they would be happy to check the stock they received this past Sunday.
If you have gently used jumpers, skirts, pants, shorts and shirts that your child can no longer fit, please consider donating them to our Uniform Exchange!  As a courtesy, we ask that you please, please launder your items before donating.  This will ensure that we can pass them along quickly to another student.  Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful consideration. Gym Uniforms3rd – 8th graders are required to wear a gym uniform.  If you need a gym shirt, PTA has stock for purchase in sizes Youth XS-XL and Adult S-XL, for $5 each.  They also double as a shirt to wear during Spirit Day and it’s a great way for you to also show your school spirit during your child’s game, so don’t forget to order one for yourself!  We accept cash or check (made out to St. Vivian PTA).  You can either send in an envelope to school Attn PTA: Gym Shirt, labeled with your child’s name, teacher’s name and size or stop in the office with exact change or a check and Mrs. Derrick can assist you    We will be sure to send the shirt home with your student within 1 day.  Please note: we cannot provide a shirt until it has been paid for.
Part of the required gym uniform are a pair of plain, black, knee length shorts.  If you need a pair, you can pre-order them through the PTA for $10 each, payable by cash or check (made out to St. Vivian PTA).  They have a 9″ seam and come in sizes Youth S-L and Adult S-XL.  If you need a pair, please pre-order by sending in an envelope to school Attn: PTA: Gym Shorts, labeled with Your Name, Your email Address, your child’s name, teacher’s name and size. Only shorts that have been pre-ordered and paid for will be provided.  Unfortunately, due the variety of sizes, we are not able to carry a stock of this item.  If you would like to pre-order a pair, Please send in your order and payment no later than Monday August 19th.  We will send the shorts home with your student by the end of the month.
Thank you and we pray that God continues to bless you and your families.Carly & Tracey
