St. Vivian Religious Education

The religion program at St. Vivian Parish and School is designed to permeate every aspect of the lives of our children. We emphasize education in our Catholic faith, practice in our Traditions, and Christian service in our families and community.

Student Activities

The love of Jesus Christ and knowledge of Catholic teaching is meant to reach into all subject areas, not just religion class. Throughout the year, our students enrich their faith lives by participating in the following activities:

  • Celebration of the liturgy, including student involvement in liturgical ministries
  • Opportunities for reconciliation
  • Prayer services, praying the Rosary and other devotional activities
  • Daily prayer
  • Service learning opportunities
  • Grade level retreats
  • Community service projects/trips

“Jesus formed his disciples by making known to them the various dimensions of the Kingdom of God. He entrusted to them 'the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven' (Mt. 13:11); he taught them how to pray (Lk. 11:2); he opened his 'meek and humble heart' to them (Mt. 11:29); and he sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit.  (Lk. 10:1)  The fundamental task of catechesis is to achieve the same objective: the formation of disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus instructed his disciples; he prayed with them; he showed them how to live; and he gave them his mission.

Curriculum

Our curriculum text is Spirit of Truth, published by Sophia Press, for grades K-8. Our Preschool uses Allelu!, published by Our Sunday Visitor.

Educational materials from Sophia Press are used for both the school and PSR religion programs.  We endeavor to assist families in their vocation as primary formers of the faith of their children by providing enriching lessons that will engender faith discussions in the home. It is our hope that your child’s religious instruction enlivens the faith knowledge and practices of your family, in order to continue to build the Kingdom of God here on earth.
